If you have been working from home since March 2020, you are far from alone. You are also probably in need of some intense stretching. According to NBC News, nearly 42% of Americans are working from home since the pandemic struck. Unsurprisingly, that has resulted in more Americans sitting at home on the couch and becoming less active during the day. According to a study conducted by One Poll, sixty-one percent of working Americans said that they use their sofa as a workstation since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with workers admitting it’s their primary spot to send emails daily (the ladders). This chronic couch sitting can lead to poor posture. When you are working, are your shoulders rounded? Is your back rounded forward? Do you have pain in your neck, shoulders, or mid-back? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are likely experiencing Upper Body Cross Syndrome. UBCS presents as tight pecs and upper traps along with weak neck muscles and weak lower traps. It can be fixed by strengthening the muscles of the back and stretching the muscles of the chest. Follow along with our therapists below for some help from home!
